The Rebecca

Please click onto the image for a clearer view.

The Rebecca is the first bracelet that I have incorporated Lava Stones into and I am excited for the person who makes this one theirs!  As with all of my bracelets, a great deal of effort was put into the thought process of combining different stones not just for aesthetic purposes, but to build a collaboration of meaning behind them.

Lava Stones:  Lava is known for grounding and calming emotions.  It comes from the core of the earth and is a Root Chakra.  Because of its unique and porous texture, it can be used as a natural diffuser.  Essential oils can easily be absorbed by the lava stones, allowing you to carry its scent with you all day.

Carnelian:  Carnelian is "known as a stone of motivation and endurance, leadership and courage."
It is also a stabilizing crystal to help improve concentration and creativity.  It's an energy booster. Orange Carnelian stimulates the Sacral Chakra.  It is the birthstone for August and for Virgos.

Black Tourmaline:  It is known to be a protective stone; to protect one from negative energies including one's own thoughts and feelings and to protect one from environmental pollutants.
It is grounding stone and a Base or Root Chakra.  It is also a Capricorn birthstone.

This bracelet may appeal to anyone who is looking to ground themselves and rid themselves of negativity to make room for creativity, confidence, and energy.  Depression.

This bracelet can be worn with or without adding an essential oil to the lava stones.  Sweet Orange has a fresh and sweet scent.  It is great to use to uplift your mind and body.  *If using an EO, please add one drop at a time until you find the perfect amount for you.  Add the EO prior to wearing the bracelet and give it a few minutes to absorb so as to diminish the amount of contact the EO has on your skin.

Diagnosis: Eczema

It was around November when the pain and the itch began.  I wasn't quite sure what those red spot were but they seemed to respond to the only ointment that I had at home, my Lemongrass Spa Healing Elements Balm.  I used it for cuts, bug bites, even more private irritations (wink, wink) and it did the job, so why wouldn't it work on this new "rash?"  The Healing Elements alleviated the symptoms and as soon as they went away, I stopped putting it on.  It didn't take long for the rash to return and I would begin the dance again.

Although uncomfortable, I wasn't overly concerned considering it took me two month to finally visit the doctor.  However, when I finally got around to it, it was nice to get an answer to my burning question.  Diagnosis:  Eczema!  Now I am very thankful that it isn't leprosy or any other horrific disease, but eczema wasn't what I was hoping for either.  Especially, in the armpits!  Ugh... it's annoying.  The doctor gave me the spiel of how there's not alot out there for it and not that much information about it.  What stuck in my head was that it doesn't really go away.  :(

I told her what I had been using and she asked if I wanted a prescription.  I said yes and got it filled, but I have yet to use it... I haven't had to!  I am all for modern medicine, but when I can use something natural and it works, I am absolutely going to take that route.  It's been two weeks since I have learned what I am dealing with and I have yet to have a flair up since!

Being a consultant, I know that Lemongrass Spa has a number of products that are beneficial for those people who suffer from eczema, so as soon as I got home from the doctor, I went shopping!

Here's my artillery that is keeping my eczema at bay...

First, the oatmeal milk and honey soap smells phenomenal!!
It's a gentle cleanser that won't dry out your skin and perfect for sensitive skin.
You can use this on your face and whole body!

Although I was already using Lemongrass Spa natural deodorant, I felt that my Lavender Deodorant irritated my skin at times.  I later on read that essential oils need to be very diluted if they are going to be used on sensitive (eczema) skin.  So I changed over to our new deodorant paste.  I opted for the unscented paste and paired that with the lemongrass spray.
Read more here.

Last but not least, the healing elements balm!!!  So many uses and so far, it has worked for all that I have tried (lip balm, razor burn, anti-bacterial ointment, yeast infections, hemorrhoid cream, sunburn, canker sores, and deodorant).
Since my eczema is in my armpits, most of the time now, I am using this as my ointment and deodorant.  I love that I have the lemongrass deodorant spray to make me feel a little more protected from stink, ;)

A Reflection and a Purpose

Today marks the end of first full month for me as a Lemongrass Consultant and I wanted to take a moment post to reflect on this new venture of mine.  This is not only my way of organizing my thoughts through reflection, but to also share what I have done that makes me feel good about my inner self as well.

First off, I have spent lots of money.  But in a good way.  A fun way.  When I signed up with Lemongrass Spa it only cost $99 for a package full of samples to introduce myself to more products and to share with others during my spa parties.  I could have got by with just that, atleast to begin with, but when I really set my mind to something, like really, I like to go right at it.  I wanted to add more products to my sample kit, so I did.  I wanted to create an ambiance at my parties, so I bought glass jars, lemons, baskets, and even a lemongrass candle.  I've always wanted business cards, so I created those and had a blast doing so on Vista.  I bought some other essentials like soaking tubs and towels.  I bought little jars for samples.  I bought the cutest clipboards and colorful pens.  I have found Picmonkey and have become addicted to creating posters and banners because its so much fun!  Yes... I was/am that person and I enjoyed every bit of it!  That's part of the beauty of this, I have complete control as to how I want to present myself and my business.  It's such a fantastic and liberating feeling!

After buying and testing out a few items myself, I came to quickly realize how much I truly love the Lemongrass Products.  I use LGS products almost exclusively.  Facial cleansing, makeup, deodorant, bug spray, sunscreen... just about everything now.  There are some products that I absolutely love and there are some that are no better or worse from any other that I have used except... I know that LGS is safe and healthy for me to use.  I may not notice it in that instance, but in the long run choosing chemical and toxic free products is the better choice.  I almost feel dirty now when I use regular soap.  I feel guilty when I use the last of the old sunscreen on my son.  So I guess you could say I have been converted (and that I have splurged!)  And you know what, I am worth it!

I have probably had the most fun however with giveaways!  I have given quite a bit away for free.  Part of it has been to introduce people to Lemongrass Spa.  The other part is that it just truly feels good to do so.  I feels good introducing (mainly) women to a healthier alternative to products that they and their families use on a daily basis.  And although the products are more expensive than picking up something from Walmart, it really is not that much more.  The products are reasonably priced and worth the extra cost in the safety benefits.  I was a single mom for almost 4 years, I know how tight money can be, so finding an affordable product was very high up on my list.  It's not about the money.

It can be a tricky thing though... getting to people.  My friends have been great in supporting me and buying products.  So far they all seem to love them, which is fantastically reaffirming to me.  Social media is helpful as well in contacting people that I know, but do not see on a daily basis.  (I am actually holding a virtual Facebook party on Tuesday!)  Although I am finally starting to learn how to use Facebook as a business and its limitations.  In July I will start to expand out to family (next time I see them) and that is exciting.  But in the meantime, I need to be brave and bold and introduce myself to others out there... neighbors, parents that I meet through my son, etc.   I am not that outgoing and that is going to be a stretch.  I will need to step outside of my box even further.  At the same time, I should be prepared for some slow times and when they come... I need to take a deep breath and continue on.  Stay positive.  Stay focused.  And just enjoy the ride for as long as I want to stay on for!

Although I have stated that this is not about the money, there is money involved and I have been making it.  It's what I have chosen to do with it that has made this venture feel intrinsically rewarding.  I have used my money earned to help buy and use products that are safe and healthy for myself and my family.  I have used it to buy samples and full sized products to send and share with others.  I have used it to donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  I have used it to help create and grow a business that can support the first three.  That makes me happy.  It's not just about me.  It's not just about my family.  It's about others as well and playing a small part in hopefully making a difference in someone else's health.

I have to admit that I feel like being a Lemongrass Consultant feels more like a hobby than a business.  I am enjoying it that much.  I have found a positive purpose in doing this crazy thing called direct sales, something I never ever thought I would do.

Operation Freedom Feet

This year marks Lemongrass Spa's 8th annual Freedom Feet Campaign.  Freedom Feet Kits are foot spa kits that are sent to women (and men) who are either stationed domestically or overseas.  It's a way to show them our appreciation for their service to our country.  We can all use a little pampering and relaxation, especially when you are on your feet 18 hours a day!!

For every 10 kits that are sold, Lemongrass Spa will donate one.  This year's goal is to send our 2,000.  My personal goal is to purchase 5 kits.  For each spa party that is booked with me, I will purchase a kit (up to 5 kits).  So far I have had 3 bookings and would love to have at least 2 more before the campaign is over (July 31, 2015).

If you would like to make a nominal donation or purchase an entire kit for $24 (shipping and tax included) to send to someone that you know in the service or to a random recipient, please contact me for more details.

Thank you!

It Has Arrived!

It has arrived!  My Lemongrass Spa Consultant Kit arrived in the mail today!  I was so excited to get it and to try all of the different products, yet it is already 10:45 pm and I still have yet to take a close look at most of them.

I missed my deadline to invite people to my launching party by one day, so I was busy taking photographs (lol... living the dream) like the one seen above and creating an "Event" page on Facebook so that I could get the invitations out to everyone.  My big day is April 25th and then again on May 3rd. My apartment is only so big and there is a limit as to how many people I can comfortably accommodate, so I invited a big group of people and am letting them choose with the hope that the attendance will be balanced.

This past week, which is essentially my first week in the business world has been rather fun.  I launched my Facebook page and am 4 shy of hitting my first milestone of 50 Likes.  I just sent out invitations to my launching parties too.  I've also been planning and purchasing items that I think will make my spa parties seem professional and classy.  I bought some trial sized containers and little mesh bags to create free take-homes.  I have also bought towels and little soaking tubs for mini-pedicures.  I even bought some small decor like a lemongrass candle, a wicker basket, and lemons... just to help create a relaxing ambiance.

I have always wanted business cards and I am looking forward to designing and creating my own business card.  That is probably my next big to-do.  Well, right after making an order with Lemongrass for both myself (yay!) and for my parties!  I also hope to launch this blog by the end of this week as well.  The only thing that I want to have in place before launching  (sharing on Facebook) is my donation page for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  That is an important piece for the inspiration behind all that I am doing and it needs to be there before I begin to share this blog with others.

What I have learned so far is that I need to be organized and I need to set dates and time lines for myself.  I am not sure how things will change once things start to develop and more sales occur.  I imagine I will need to continue to be organized as well.  I know that is a skill that I helps me as a teacher too.  I also know that I will not publish many posts such as this one.  Today I am just blabbing away, but I am doing that because I am excited!  We all need something that stirs things up for ourselves and makes us happy.

I just changed my Facebook profile image and it seems very fitting to share here to end this post.  I whole-heartedly believe this...

Coming Together

An idea occurred to me two years ago when I was living and taking care of my son on my own.  That idea was to create some form of "business" to help generate some extra income.  I was lucky enough to have a reliable job in teaching, but living in New York City and with all of the extra expenses in having a child, money was very tight.  I thought about what came most natural to me, and that was teaching.  I thought about what part of that I was most passionate about, and that was writing (curriculum).  So, that is what I focused on.  I looked for free-lance writing jobs that I could do from home, but never found anything that seemed to fit.  I found some interesting part-time jobs, but I would need to pay a sitter (which would defeat the whole purpose) so I passed on those.  I realized that the best scenario would be for me to be my own boss and that sounded like such a wonderful, invigorating idea!  What would I offer?  Lesson plans that aligned with the newly released Common Core Standards.  I read up on how to create my own website and I began to rewrite old lessons and create new ones worthy of selling to other teachers.  It didn't take long before I just became... uninspired.  I was redoing what I already did and do and it just didn't stimulate my mind.  Deep down, I was looking for something new, something different, but I had no idea what that was, so this desire became dormant.

I've had some thoughts come to me in the past couple of years.  I've wondered if I should use my love for writing to write a book based on my experiences.  But I wasn't sure what my angle would be.  What would be it's true purpose and whom would it be written for (audience)?  The thought was fascinating, but the reality was uncomfortable.  I started to dabble into photography.  I got a new camera and even took some classes.  It's fun and I plan on pursuing this even more, but... I didn't see it becoming the kind of purpose that I was searching for.  So it took me completely by surprise when what I was looking for was found in a place I never, ever would have envisioned for myself.

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a skin care “party.”  A friend that I used to work with was venturing into this business and I went to support her.  I was completely taken aback when the business angle that the ladies pitched actually appealed to me.  Another friend, whom I brought, was also quite persuasive encouraging “us” to go into business together.  So, I thought about it, so much so that I began to do research on the company.  It was in the midst of my research that I stumbled across Lemongrass Spa.  Lemongrass Spa is a small company and one that I had never heard of before.  But as I read more and more about it, ideas started to grow and oddly enough, becoming a natural skin care consultant seemed to be the piece that linked everything together.

I am not one who is very much into skin care and makeup.  Yes, I use both, but my skin care regiment usually consists of washing my face with regular bar soap with an occasional eye cream application.  I do wear makeup, but am not very good at applying it.  I’ve sought help with a Sephora consultant once and bought a whole lot of makeup from her.  However, I found that I replaced most of it with pharmacy offered makeup lines, my usual.  I am also not one who pays much attention to organic and gluten-free products or even natural cleaning products for that matter.  However, all of these things that are not so much me, are what appeal to me most about Lemongrass.  So, I decided to give it a try.  I bought some products, and I loved them!  Their scent is fresh and natural.  They feel fresh and clean too!  Perhaps it is more psychological than anything, but using their products makes me feel healthier too, like I am taking better care of my body more for choosing to put chemical and toxic free products onto my skin.  Not only that, but I have found that I am paying attention more to other products that I am buying, like environmentally safer cleaning products, even tree-free toilet paper!

So, I decided to step outside of my knowledge base and my comfort zone to become a Lemongrass Spa consultant.  After thorough research, this is a company that I feel comfortable stepping outside of my box for.  I am not a sales person by nature and this will be the most difficult aspect of this new endeavor for me.  But believing in the products that I will be selling and the integrity of the company will make it easier.

However, one thing that I am painfully aware of is how what matters most is the way that one feels on the inside.  That is where this blog comes into place.  This is where I can use my love of writing to serve a purpose and hopefully one that matters and can make a difference in someone else’s life.  I also learned though, after finding my own self and learning to love my self again during these past few years, is that how you do look on the outside does matter too.  It is a reflection of how one feels about themselves on the inside.  It is important to take care of your body on the outside… that includes loving the skin you're in, literally.  Promoting natural products seems more authentic to me rather than promoting products full of chemicals and toxins.

Everything has seemingly come together.  I am now my own boss.  I can use my writing for a greater purpose.  I can even use my own photography :).  The best part in it taking more than two years for it to all come together is that I am no longer a single mom taking care of my son on my own.  (I have an amazing boyfriend who is completely supportive of me in all that I do.)  And my desire to do this is no longer based on finding a way to produce more income.  I am doing this in hopes of being able to help others.  I am doing this to feel what it is like to be in the business world, since I won’t ever leave my job as a teacher.  I am doing this for fun and to try something completely new to expand myself.  I am also doing this so that I can donate a portion of what I do earn to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.  As the 4 year mark of my husband’s own death quickly approaches, I am happy to have finally found a way to honor his memory and to give to an agency with the hope of being able to help prevent the tragedy of someone else taking their own life and the devastation that leaves behind.
